Widescreen is native to game. When you first run the game, there is a warning that your GPU doesn't have Transform & Lighting. Just
acknowledge and go, it will run fine. First the good news. The games starts and loads and runs as it should, and supports 1024x600
resolution out of the box.
Now the bad news. Too many units can cause stuttering and slow the framerate to almost unplayable levels. Game settings are at
their lowest too. I have even overclocked my Eee 900 to 1000MHz with only marginal improvement. It is ok for one on one skirmishes, but battles
with too many units will bring your Eee to its knees. You can bump the
resolution down to 800x600 for a marginal improvement, but that's up to you.
Considering the amount of storage space it requires, and the poor frame rate, I'm tempted to rate this a single 'E' but the fact that
it supports the 1024x600 resolution out of the box, and it works albeit with frame rate issues, I gave it a EE rating. Best to stick with
Age of Empires 2.

Widescreen support is available, through configuration file edits. First run the game, get options set up how you want them. I run with
all high settings with no issues. Exit out of the game.
Go to your main Aliens vs Predator 2 directory and edit the autoexec.cfg file by double clicking it or right click and "open
with..." choose notepad.
Use CTRL-F to find the following entries (i.e. screenwidth) and adjust accordingly:
Save it and close. If you change any settings in the game then it will revert the resolution back to whatever is displayed as picked in
game, which are only 4:3 resolutions (i.e. 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 etc).
Modifying the resolution in the autoexec.cfg file will essentially stretch the screen. You can adjust the FOV or field of view, but it has
its limitations. But here's how to do it anyways:
Start up a game. When started, bring up the chat window by pressing the <ENTER> key. Now type:
<cheat> mpfov
And hit the ENTER key Now use the A and D keys to change the FOV to your liking. Unfortunately you cannot
save this FOV setting, so every time you play you will have to reset the FOV.
This game still keeps up to snuff with today's games as far as originality, content, and overall fun to play. Aliens and Predators still
scare me, and the constant "bleep bleep bleep" of the motion detector, maintains the suspense. It runs an plays great on the Eee.
Give it a shot if you can manage to get ahold of a copy. There is a demo available too if you're interested in giving it a shot!
There is also an expansion available, Primal Hunt, but unless you already own it, or manage to get ahold of the Gold edition of Aliens vs.
Predator 2, you wouldn't miss out on much.

For widescreen support, open with notepad: <game dir>\Bin\default.cfg file.
Edit the following lines:
vid_width "1024"
vid_height "600"
This has a strange effect however. The screen inverts when you go to play it, with no valid
explanation found so far. However, I have found a few workarounds:
(1) Make sure to leave a window open on the desktop before you start. Also ensure that you have
the Intel Hotkey program running "C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe" to allow for hotkey
screen rotation. Start the game, alt-tab (or even ctrl-alt-del) out of Babylon 5: IFH. Your IFH
screen will remain, but then press the "Ctrl-Alt-Up Arrow" hotkey should rotate the screen.
(2) Change the resolution to 1024 x 599. This seems to have a slight performance hit for some reason,
and leaves one line on the bottom of your screen from your desktop exposed.
(3) In the default.cfg file, change vid_fullscreen from "1" to "0" and it will run
windowed mode. Might want to fuss with the window size a bit, however, to your liking.
Again, great free older game, but don't expect to max out the options.

Common widescreen resolutions native to game, but not Eee's. Initial load time is VERY slow, but once in the game it is decent. Before changing
to the Eee's native resolution, go into the game and set all your graphics options to the lowest settings. The game is nearly unplayable
otherwise. To change to native resolution:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Profiles\
Edit Options.ini file
Change 'Resolution = xxxx yyy' to 'Resolution = 1024 600'
If you mess with the graphics settings at all, it will revert back to whatever is showing in the pull down list. But the game has slightly
better frame rates at 800x600 than 1024x600. In either case, the game runs slowly, and I'd recommend sticking with no more than 2v2 skirmishes,
otherwise expect a slide show.

Game can run natively with with 800x600, but it does support 1024x600 with a few edits. Framerates are generally average, but liveable. I would
plan on mainly skirmishes or small multiplayer maps with max four players. It will give you your Generals fix but I wouldn't plan a long LAN
weekend with it.
Here's how to get widescreen:
(1) Run the game once to initialize all the settings, and edit video options as you prefer. Highly recommend all settings on lowest. Be sure to
select 'custom' option from the graphics menu. This option may be partially hidden in the pulldown menu, but it works nevertheless.
(2) Exit the game once you have settings the way you want them (minimum preferably)
(3) Now go to the directory where you installed Generals Zero Hour and go into Data/INI folder and edit 'GameData.ini' file (just double click or
right click/open with.../notepad).
(4) Under the section 'GameData' in the GameData.ini file, there are two commands you need to edit: XResolution and YResolution. Just edit for:
XResolution = 1024
YResolution = 600
(5) Save and close GameData.ini file
You should now be able to play C&C Generals and Zero Hour. If you want to play online, I recommend looking for a mini image at gamecopyworld.com.
It only consumes 1KB of data, and just mount it with Daemon Tools, and will fool your PC into thinking the CD is actually installed in order to play.

This is a fun game that is still worth playing today. It doesn't support 1024x600 natively but it is fairly simple to adjust:
Widescreen Gaming Forum Link for NOLF 2
(1) First start the game and choose settings you want and select resolution of 800x600. You will get a warning that says the chipset
isn't recognized or supported - just click OK. Once in the game, there is an in-game benchmark that is fairly accurate to see if it will
run well. See my settings for what I feel is optimum. After you set the settings the way you want, exit the game.
(2) Go to the game directory where you installed NOLF 2 and edit the 'display.cfg' file with notepad and set the following:
"screenwidth" "1024"
"screenheight" "600"
(3) Save and Exit disply.cfg
(4) Go back to your root game directory and edit 'autoexec.cfg' with notepad
(5) Search for and change "screenwidth" "1024" and "screenheight" "600" like in 'display.cfg'above.
(6) Search for and change "pvmodelaspect" "1.7067" (4:3 is 1.333, 16:10 is 1.6)
(7) Search for and change "pvmodelfov" "78" (4:3 is 65, 16:10 is 74)
(8) Save and exit out of 'autoexec.cfg'
Your game should now run at native widescreen with the proper field of view. However, some things stretch in the game, so it isn't a 100%
fix, but it definitely works.
You may have to use the 'ESC' key to back out of menus since the 'Back' arrow may be hidden after adjusting to widescreen settings. And
use 'Alt-F4' to exit the game entirely.

Starcraft is a classic, that goes without saying. It is also not even a 3D game, so of course it runs great on
the Eee. Even though it only supports 640x480 it runs like a charm, even at 630MHz.
Under normal circumstances I'd have to give this title only a EE due to its limited resolution options, but since
it's Starcraft I'll give them a break. :) *Blizzard was kind enough to release an official "no-CD"
patch, however, this requires copying two significantly large files to your storage drive (one for original
Starcraft, one for Brood War). There are third party hacks out there that seem to minimize the file size. I will
see if I can post these options considering the limited storage space on the Eee as it is.

Widescreen capable, but stretches the image to fit the screen. Either way it looks and plays great.
You must edit the registry to modify the resolution, so do this at your own risk.
Find:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III\Video
Edit:
reswidth = 1024

Be sure to select "decimal" as the "Base" value when editing the DWORD values
Close the registry, run the game, and voila, instant widescreen.
NOTE: Latest patch for Warcraft 3 removes the CD check so you can play without the hassle of finding a
third party no-cd patch
